The first woman to lead the country

Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard may be making political history today, but the first woman to lead the country since federation says it will be “business as usual”.

Ms Gillard assumes prime ministerial duties over the next two days while Prime Minister Kevin Rudd attends the climate change conference in Bali.

Ms Gillard, who holds the super portfolio of Employment and Workplace Relations and Education, said she would be working on implementing Labor policies today.

Ms Gillard, 46, was last week sworn in as Australia’s first ever female deputy prime minister.

And about time too!… hip hip hoorah
Now for the top job, permanently; whether it be Julia or some other strong enough to take it on, and strength is what they’ll need… nevertheless, this is most certainly a step in the right direction.

Congratulations Julia, keep inspiring!
