Some Days Are Not So In FLOW!

ListeTalk about going from one extreme to the other!

Yesterday, as smooth as clockwork.
Today, disaster…

Actually that’s not strictly true, it depends on what I’m comparing it to.
If using my diary and to do list (as I did yesterday), today’s activities were not even remotely close to doing what I was supposed to have done.  If on the other hand, I review the activities in terms of upping the ante on playing a bigger game then I was right on the money…

Today I had two phone calls that were not planned but have the potential to be enormous…
Both took time to work out what was being asked, both took time to nurture and both could go absolutely nowhere!

Using the old “Tattslotto” motto – “you’ve got to be in it, to win it“, this goes for business opportunities as well. Yes, you do have to be savvy enough to recognise not all presented are in fact what you should be pursuing. Nonetheless, the initial conversations can be rather interesting, as well as time-consuming, so you do have to be careful.

As I’ve been known to say, being opportunistic and bold is the only way to really get ahead.

Sometimes doing the stuff you’re invited to do has to take precedent over doing the stuff you need to do; don’t you think?
What sphincter-tightening moment did you have today?

Some Days Are So In FLOW!

What a Day!
Sometimes you just need to recognise and give praise that you managed to pull off all you needed to. This is my account of one such day…

It all started this morning when I had:

  • to make 4 calls before 9am… done!
  • to be ready for meeting in suburbs by 10am… done!
  • the ability to assist meeting attendees, by introducing them to another party… done!
  • booked the meeting for Monday next week… done!
  • synced the car and train… done!
  • made a meeting in city by midday… done!
  • ticked off all agenda items in no time flat and got to work… done!
  • made all calls and set up to do list for next 2 days… done!
  • received 2 planned calls, one an interview, the other an update and chat on what moves to make next… done!
  • ran out of office, jumped straight on train and directly back to car… done!
  • met Daughter at station, to go visit my home-alone Father.. done!
  • An entrepreneurial mothers lot!
All in good time, all in good time. Grateful!

When a Change of Business Model Makes Sense…

When I started work with a Client today, we were going down a particular path, one we had been on for weeks… and then it changed.

We continued to explore one line of thinking and it became obvious that those around the table were not really comfortable with where we were going. So with all bets off, we re-explored what we were doing.

Only to come to the conclusion that we wanted to take a different road, one that seemed much more “right”!

We will all sleep on it tonight and see what verdict we wake with again tomorrow… although my guess is that the new path will be pursued from now on.

Yet another example of it never being to late to start again…

A Website Does NOT an Online Strategy Make…

HomeButtonAnother day, another conversation with a Business Owner who thinks that having a website covers off the Online Strategy question…

    IT DOES NOT!

A website forms part of an Online Strategy, absolutely.
But is it not the be-all that ends-all.
In fact it is only a small part of the overall digital consideration.

From a “Sale-ability” point of view, when asked about what digital | online strategies are in place, if “I’ve got a website” is offered as the answer, the potential buyer will start rubbing their hands together in glee (if it’s a business they want that is).

Why? Because it gives them an issue on which to start down a sale price-discounting path.

Do you have to cover off every little thing to appeal to a potential buyer?
Well ideally, yes, but we know that’s not necessarily doable.

However, given the growing impact and importance of the whole digital | online space, “what is your Online Strategy?” is one question Business Owners looking to sell have to have a well-formulated and accurate response for.

    The Tale of 2 Cafes

Once upon a time, a small cafe #1 had the neighbourhood to itself.
It opens and shuts as it pleased.
It takes long breaks for the owners overseas jaunts.
    It has attitude.
    It is rather pricey.
    Perfectly fine.

    Until, along came Cafe #2.
It opened and has almost never closed.
It has not had a break.
    It has attitude.
    It is reasonably priced.
    Opened next door.

Should the two be able to live in harmony? Of course.
But Cafe #1 has got grumpy.
Instead of delighting and servicing their own clientele into it, Cafe #1 is attacking Cafe #2 and thinking that will work. Really?
    A recipe for disaster!

    What would you do?
