Spent 3 days learning further about all things Buy and Sell Websites and wasn’t it worth it! Sometimes you just have to DO to work it out and DOing I am!

There are so many things happening in the Buy and Sell Website space, it’s hard not to try and play in them all at once. So I spent the 4th day locked away, plotting and scheming in terms of how my revived learning impacts on my daily activities from now on. A most rewarding exercise it was too.

So what does that mean?
I am definitely keen to talk to anyone who has a website to sell, or thinks they might like to sell in the not too distant future, because the range of options I now have to assist them are deep and doable. Come and talk to me…

Assisting colleague by introducing the perfect buyer for his selling client. However, due to their own growth plans, this has been placed on the back burner. Vendor has given all-clear to 3 private parties who have indicated interest, with another 2 more in the wings. IMs have been sent.

Health Care Provider
Assisting colleague by introducing the Home Help interested party to their client, now that the authority has been signed. As it turns out, the offer out of nowhere was being used as their first step in the process. One prospective party is keen to meet, which has now been organised.

Spending the next 3 days learning further about all things Buy and Sell Websites. Looking forward to sharpening my saw on the skill set I am nurturing and developing and enjoying. Sometimes you just have to DO to work it out!

Fortunately, during your time as a Broker, you come across people who get it!
By that I mean, there is no education component required in order for them to understand what you’re revealing.
And what a pleasure that is when it happens…

Had a meeting on Wednesday with a well-established Business Advisor. As usual, there was a few things on the agenda, one of which was the introduction of a business we have for sale. The reason was because I had seen this particular chap present a keynote recently and what he spoke of is how we want to sell this business. Hence the invitation for a coffee and a chat.

Much to our collective delight, he could see what we are trying to achieve and on first glance, is prepared to work in with us to get a mutually beneficial outcome. Happy days!

The Linkedin campaign commenced sourcing and contacting larger agencies. Some have said thanks but no thanks. Otherwise have accepted the preliminary information but nothing else as yet. And others haven’t responded at all.  Next phase will be going to our “referral network”. What will next week bring?

Unfortunately for the prospective buyer, it’s way off the mark and that’s because they listened to their accountant who clearly doesn’t understand the business buying/selling process. They’ve been invited in to discuss the issue but so far no response.

Started some of the renovation of the transferred website this week, with more to come. Best way is to step this out anyway, given I want to know what works and what doesn’t. I won’t know that if I do it all at once will I? Yes, I do need to double the numbers first off, to make it worth continuing the process, but systematically and consistently is the way to go.

Are you 45-55 years of age and realising there is no Job future for you?
Well, not at the level you want at least?

It’s becoming more apparent that once you’ve been retrenched from the high-paying gig, any time after 45, it’s not easy to replace it. Given Tony and Joe want us working until 70, that means there is approx. 20 years of earning you’re not participating in, unless you come up with a better plan.

The answer to that plan, I believe, is to buy a business.

Not only are you not waiting 2 years to make money (which is, on average, how long it takes to make money if you started your own thing) but you are also buying into revenue. Even if you did nothing else but maintain status quo, enabling you to understand the business from the inside, you’re creating revenue and keeping some of it. And if you did that for say 6 months, before you start tinkering with it, you would then be in a position to have locked the revenue in whilst getting ready to increase it with initiatives you’re ready to roll out.

You just can’t do so with any other medium…

OK, so renovation of the transferred website was supposed to happen this week also… but alas, business owners got in the way! Not a bad thing of course but my schedule was pushed out as a result. After all I do need to double the numbers first off, to make it worth continuing the process. Next week!

In the meantime, very excited about a Heads of Agreement signed and a deposit collected. This, I think, is a great buy, a good deal all round really. Why? because it has felt like it all the way through the meetings and dealings to date. Only complication with this one is it is a Franchise. Which means then that the Franchisor can stymie all attempts to sell, if they feel so inclined!

The key learning out of this Franchise transaction for me is that the two-level approval process required i.e. that of the owner first and then that of the Franchisor second, adds a layer of complexity not seen in typical business transactions. This additional level should not cause grief, I agree. But having that level does add more steps where something could go wrong.

So far so good. Lets hope it continues that way…

The revised IM is due by end of week. As suspected, the numbers are not looking good. Hence the nature of the sale now will be quite different to the time when we had an offer on the table (which was declined). When there’s a delay like this, one of two things happen. The time has been used to either actively write more business and really get it firing or sit back and hope all falls into place.  Sadly, this falls into the later category.

BS49 Home Help…
The signed Heads of Agreement is completed and a deposit is paid. Next step, exclusive Due Diligence commences.

As for the other party, they have been advised accordingly. Fortunately though, I hope to have another similar to introduce next week.

So the one is interested. Additional information has been supplied. Next step is to meet on premises and really talk the numbers through. Hope to arrange a meeting next week.

IM finalised. Advertisement on websites. An industry mailing list from our existing relationships has been pulled together and emails have been sent. One party has indicated interest so will call to chat initially. Be interesting to know how this fits in with their current growth plans.

OK, so renovation of the transferred website was supposed to happen this week… but alas, business owners got in the way! Not a bad thing of course but my schedule was pushed out as a result. After all I do need to double the numbers first off, to make it worth continuing the process. Next week!

In the meantime, one event I attended this morning was that of “Exit Alliance”. A package put together, predominately for accountants, to enable them to have a continuing and further-reaching relationship as their Baby Boomer clients move from business owners to business sellers.

Essentially it’s about providing the A Team for the client, as they move through this transition period, as opposed to them having to seek their own professionals, especially if they’ve not gone down this path before. 

It’s very similar to The Infinite Group offering I was involved in, but more sophisticated. As always, each iteration of the next best thing is usually a more advanced version. Or at least you hope so, that’s for sure.

The owner announced they have secured yet another rather large contract, this one orchestrated through Head Office. Add that to the good news of last week and this business just keeps getting better. We may also have another interested party so that could make for a most interesting week to come. Who gets to the signed Heads of Agreement and a deposit is paid first, will get to exclusive Due Diligence first.

So the one is interested. Additional information has been supplied. The owner has also altered expectations, to make it more palatable for anyone really. Here’s hoping this one is finalised this week too.

This week, I bought a website!

Great domain name.
Both dotcom and dotcom.au versions in included.
Already channeling “uniques” and $$ (small numbers at this stage but great berth)
A delightful seller, willing to assist with the transfer (although my techies are good to go whenever I make the call!)
All for less than $200.
Good shopping or what…

Really looking forward to the “renovation” part now, to get this little baby humming along nicely. Waiting for the tap on the shoulder from the few corporates that will want this. Time will tell on this strategy.

But even if they don’t, no matter. At this rate, the investment will be paid off under 12 months so the rest will be cream.

Gotta love that!

So the two parties have meet to sit down and nut it out. A 2 hour briefing covered off most of the pre-Due Diligence questions. We’ve got one more meeting with the potential buyer tomorrow. Be interesting to see what further questions are to be asked. Wondering if it might be an earnout conversation… Next week should see this move rather quickly.

Touched base with local competitors and two parties were interested enough to request and return the  CA, in readiness for receiving the Business Profile. Really want either of these two to be courageous enough to give it a go, as they at least understand the industry and the potential this one offers, especially as a bolt-on. Such corporate appeal, so untapped. Let’s see what their feedback is.

Waiting on one final piece of information for the IM. Advertisement is good to go on the websites, so that will be arranged tomorrow. Looking forward to calling a few people I know about this one too, can see it slotting in very nicely.

This should be a no-brainer, expect with the vendor being particularly unhelpful, the Buyer is in the process of deciding what it’s worth to their business to buy as opposed to what it’s worth. This number is almost finalised, so hope to get it sorted shortly.
