Hazel Hawke – what an entrepreneurial mother!

Having just watched the updated version of “Australian Story” following the death of Hazel Hawke, it brought home to me what a wonderful woman she was. I’d always held her in high esteem and tonight’s episode only confirmed that was no fluke. What a legend!

I can only hope that Daughter, family and friends speak as highly of me when my time comes.

Even in her final days, at her most vulnerable, she continued to share, to use the circumstances as a means of educating, of deepening, of love-in-action.

I have since heard her described as Australia’s Eleanor Roosevelt. Maybe this is right in some respects… but I want the rest of the world, myself included, to remember her as Australia’s Hazel Hawke. That’s more than enough.

Rest in Peace. You will be missed.

Some Days Are So In FLOW!

What a Day!
Sometimes you just need to recognise and give praise that you managed to pull off all you needed to. This is my account of one such day…

It all started this morning when I had:

  • to make 4 calls before 9am… done!
  • to be ready for meeting in suburbs by 10am… done!
  • the ability to assist meeting attendees, by introducing them to another party… done!
  • booked the meeting for Monday next week… done!
  • synced the car and train… done!
  • made a meeting in city by midday… done!
  • ticked off all agenda items in no time flat and got to work… done!
  • made all calls and set up to do list for next 2 days… done!
  • received 2 planned calls, one an interview, the other an update and chat on what moves to make next… done!
  • ran out of office, jumped straight on train and directly back to car… done!
  • met Daughter at station, to go visit my home-alone Father.. done!
  • An entrepreneurial mothers lot!
All in good time, all in good time. Grateful!

met another fabulous little retailer today…

    Here’s the background…

A driven and caring entrepreneurial mother, who wanted to buy something specific in Australia for her child, couldn’t find what she was looking for. So she took it upon herself to rectify that problem.

To her credit, she morphed into a woman business owner (during her long-service leave break) and has turned this need into the most delightful shop, not only addressing what she needed to at the time but also making many, many more children happy, very happy since.

    All hail to her…

I know, there’ll be a number of you thinking “I’ve done the same thing, what’s the big deal?” Are you now the leader in your field? Do you have the major retailers sending people to you? Are you now doing close to 7-figure turnover? Have you built your Mother of a Business into an Asset, ready to take to the market?

    if not, there’s the difference…

HAPPY entrepreneurial MOTHERS DAY to YOU…

    Congratulations on another fabulous year!
(If it hasn’t been so fabulous, then lets talk.)

Our Dreams and Aspirations for 2011-112I love this time of year.

Daughter and I have our tradition now where we sit down and mindmap our goals/dreams for the coming 12 months.

Exhibit A (to the left) is last years offering. I can’t wait to dig into it and see what we “asked” for, and what we got! Then we do the same thing for the next year…

A most rewarding way to spend Mothers Day morning, for both of us 🙂

With Ecommerce being Hotter than Ever, be part of the (R)etail (R)evolution…

Exactly as predicted by e-gurus 15 years ago, e-commerce is hotter than ever. Whether in mature markets, where consumer spending is shifting online, or in growth markets where rapid urbanization and increasing (mobile) internet penetration are unlocking new shopping habits, shoppers are ‘e-commercing’ it up.

    Some obligatory stats:

    • US e-commerce sales will grow 62% by 2016, to USD 327 billion (Source: Forrester, February 2012).
    • European e-commerce sales will grow by 78% by 2016, to USD 230 billion (Source: Forrester, February 2012).
    • Brazilian e-commerce sales will grow 21.9% in 2012 to USD 18.7 billion (Source: eMarketer, January 2012).
    • Chinese e-commerce sales were CNY 780 billion (USD 124 billion) in 2011, an increase of 66% from 2010. E-commerce is expected to rise from 3% of consumption to 7% by 2015 (Source: IDC, March 2012).
    • India’s e-commerce market is expected to grow to USD 70 billion by 2020, from just USD 600 million in 2011 (Source: Technopak Advisors, February 2012).
    • Indonesian e-commerce sales are forecast to grow from USD 120 million in 2010 to USD 650 million by 2015 (Source: Frost & Sullivan, February 2012).

Now, consumers’ current ‘online’ experiences are of course fundamentally different to those during the early dotcom boom: e-commerce is no longer just about choice, price, convenience, reviews and ratings, but also about everything that consumers look for in any purchase: status, the right product and a compelling experience.

So, time to learn about and profit from the latest innovations that are transforming e-commerce, and ultimately, reshaping shopping behavior. Both on and offline. Click here to do so…
